Steering - Take Up Tube
Take up tube aka "spent travel tube" is used in rotary steering systems, behind the dash and opposite the steering cable inlet. The steering cable's greasy loose end will travel in/out of this tube.

The purpose of the take up tube is to support the steering cable, keep the greasy cable away from "stuff " under the dash, and to keep the cable from dragging loose under dash wires into the helm.
