New ZF Transmissions come with an extended or tall vent. This tall vent is to prevent DEEP water in the bilge from entering the gear. Occasionally certain cross-flow mufflers and some top mount starters will interfere with the standard "tall" vent. In these cases you will need to remove the vent fitting, then the tall vent adapter, replace with the Short Adapter, re-use the copper seal and re-use the vent fitting. 

NOTE: You must keep excessive bilge water well below this vent fitting!!
